David McNaughton's Ballet

Tom Sawyer

A Sold Out Success!

Ballet Califia presents an original ballet Tom Sawyer, with music, choreography, and set design by local artist David McNaughton. The ballet retells key elements of Mark Twain's much loved story in a dynamic dance that brings familiar characters to life on the stage. The ballet was created as a reflection of themes at the core of American life and culture, and portrays the energy, wit, mischief, and resourcefulness of youth in small towns and rural areas across the country.

Artistic Director McNaughton chose Tom Sawyer in part as a reminiscience of his own childhood, in the countryside of the San Francisco Bay Area. First presented in 1992, the ballet received a Fringe Festival Award for Best All Around Entertainment at the Edinburgh Festival that year.

All performances were

Friends,
This is an amazing, engaging, vibrant performance which I highly recommend for adults and children alike. The story unfolds with a kaleidoscope of sets, American folk and jazz music, and outstanding dance. The company is a mix of children and adults, all excellently prepared and polished. The cast has talented male and female leads. We, Isaac (age four) and I, had the great good fortune of attending the ballets' school show with SCHA.

All the best,
Michele
